Found this note just looking around in some dealer's links that I've done business with in the past. I've got an ungraded AU $5 871c and a beautiful $10 PPQ65 907b. I love this series and would ultimately like to find the $20, $50 and the $100, but can't afford the really top notch examples. I know it's practically impossible to grade notes from pictures, but curious as to the thoughts of folks here. My concern is the apparently slightly faded area at the lower right on the blue seal. Dealer offers 30 day returns. Edited by Blastenpene4 05/03/2024 5:59 pm

Nice-looking note but agree it's tough to grade - maybe EF? We could tell you a lot more if you could get a side lit-image

Getting too expensive. A couple of folks are really going after it. I'm out.

So this is an auction? What's the bid?

I'm not comfortable with the weakness at the bottom of the blue seal and "series of 1914" beneath it. Makes me wonder if the note was washed. Note also the lighter vertical area to the left of the left serial number. I'm far from an expert, but my gut tells me that when something looks wrong, it frequently is. Could be fine, but I'm out.

I believe the note has had minor work performed on it. There's typically a good reason why a $500+ large size note isn't in a graded holder. Personally, I'd wait for a different example.

Thanks, Steve, for confirming my thoughts. This one's not for me.

Sold for $1225. Just crazy money IMHO.

Steve - why do you think the note has been worked on? Anything in particular, or...?

Quote: Steve - why do you think the note has been worked on? I used the ebay link to view the note and saw what I thought was lightening of note where there were once stained folds, on both sides of the note.

I feel that I did the right thing to walk away from this one. You guys are teaching me and I appreciate it very much!

Probably good that you let someone else have it at that price. T&P had this info for past auction appearances for that note: T&P is a great tool especially if you're wading into the raw note arena.

Talk about a deceiving picture!

I assume that T&P is a subscription service that I am not familiar with. Again, I have to thank you all for educating me. I'm learning little by little, but raw notes certainly seem to be a crap shoot. I guess your only protection is a 30 day return. That said, I don't want to waste a dealer's time or my own - especially if the dealer is selling a doctored note!
