Any thought to incorporating achievements in CCF? I know we have Pillar and such so would be an expansion to that idea.

I know we're always trying to encourage YNs and it seems that younger folks love the dopamine rush from unlocking a badge (heck, I do too). So, might be a good way to encourage the hobby and bring in younger folks?

Just a thought. I understand this would probably mean rethinking the upvote/downvote thing. I know that's not the most popular topic but how is "Nice!" or "Good read!" any different? I'm sure if it's just clicks, someone could code the site to pop up a new set of ads on an upvote click.

Badges for things like, longevity on the site, getting praise for being a good CCF citizen, not getting moderated,

Again, just spitballing. I'm not young by any stretch but I am young for the hobby and I'm trying to figure out how to keep/get my son interested too.

Cheers!

I know Bobby's not been warm to the concept in the past.

For my own take, forums with lots of "badges" or "achievements" can give off a different vibe to what we have here. Here on CCF, if someone is being friendly and helpful, it's because they genuinely want to be like that, not because they're trying to bump up their ranking in the Top Ten Most Helpful Members leaderboard. Depending on the design, it can also lead to some oddly off-putting behaviour - like people constantly saying "if you like my advice, please give me a like!" or people suddenly acting like goofballs just so they can attain the "10 LOLs in one day" badge.

Yeah, I'm not crazy about the idea mostly for the reasons SAP stated. You don't want people making posts just to get labels. There is a star system built into the software but I decided to go with the label system instead. The star system is based on number of posts just like the labels, so basically the same thing.

This is true, plus nasty people do not last long here.

Yeah I figured the reasoning was something along those lines. Just thought I'd put it out there. Cheers!
