its such a nice looking beautifully struck coin. the last in-hand photo of the reverse shows something happened to that right field. I don't think they are die polish lines and it does look someone attempted to lessen them. I'm really torn on this one as I really like it. someone save me so I don't have to say UNC details

I hear you, panzaldi. I had to set the light source just right to capture those light scratches. I like the coin a lot - I compared it to a lot of other full head examples and this is one of the best strikes I've seen - the details in the folds of Liberty's dress are quite sharp, as is the fabric going over her right arm. I'm afraid PCGS might flag that reverse, though. Wonder if NGC would be more forgiving. Coin bought from a fairly large dealer that I've had good results from - can't help but wonder if this was a crackout from an UNC details slab. Zero interest on the auction - I made the only bid and bought it. 30-day, no questions return policy. $800+ coin if not details/cleaned. Tough decision for me.

Very nice looking coin, Blastenpene! While the reverse may be a little questionable, even if you keep it and sell it later, I think you will come out whole. You mention you were the only bidder, so the listing price was $327. High starting bids often stop people from even looking at a coin, thus limiting viewers and potential bidders. Sometimes these turn out to be great opportunities.

Let us know where you land.

It appears to have been cleaned. Both areas under the eagle's wings are suspect to a cleaning. The area above and below In God We Trust is showing hairlines. If you put the coin under light and tilt back and forth, are you seeing hairlines that change directions?

I did as you suggested, Slider. Not seeing anything that, to me, looks off on the obverse. The area under the eagle's right wing definitely shows some light scratches. Under the left a few marks, but they don't look like hairlines to me. I've decided that I can live with this at the price I paid. I'm of the opinion that this was probably a crackout of an MSdetails coin. That said, the strike is so good that I believe when the time comes to sell, I'll be fine. In hand it's a beautiful coin. I'd be happy to hear other folk's opinions on this one.

i think you nailed this one. there is no reason the coin was raw with a strike that. someone along the journey would have had to slab it. I still think its a beauty and I would be inclined to keep this one

i would not consider having it graded though

A nice coin, this was for sale here for 600 dollars so 327 is a good price if its fh and ms64

Frankly, $600 for a slabbed FH 64 coin is a deal. The slabbed ones I'm seeing here are generally over $800.

Dont give me ideas now, 600 is a tad to much to spend on a coin

it is a little steep but I used to hold off purchasing until I saved enough to buy 1 nice one instead of 5 lower value ones.

UPDATE

I decided to roll the dice and sent this to NGC. Interesting grade, but at least it made FH. NGC's pictures are terrible.

well, I'm betting NGC net graded her because its a nice piece. i'll also bet PCGS may have detailed her based on this. i'd actually be happy she's in a straight holder
