I don't have this coin in hand. It is in a PCGS holder. I would like to hear some thoughts on where the grade should be. Thanks for all opinions!

I'd say F-15, attractive coin despite the hit near the ear.

The letter R is incomplete, and the bottom of the headband is mostly gone. I'll say F-12.

I try and learn from PCGS Photograde. I made these from PCGS examples, my coin on the right. I thought this would be a good coin to do this with, I just wanted to share. F-12 F-15 VF-20 VF-25 VF-30

@HumblePie PCGS likes to choose examples that look exactly the same I vote solid F-15.

I'm stuck at F-12, thankfully no one has suggested a VF grade.

Quote: @HumblePie PCGS likes to choose examples that look exactly the same I think they do that to keep the small step between each grade visible to the eye. The lower the grade the more of a challenge it is to me. This coin I find the only detail that is either there or gone, between the F12 /VF30 graded examples, is the forehead/hairline, line. (see photo) The LIBERTY seems to be a hit or miss area. To me the LIBERTY on the VF-20 PCGS example looks better than the PCGS VF-25 example.

I'm at F15. only use photograde as guide to narrow down the grades to possibly 2 or 3. the final grade should take into consideration everything we talk about in this forum. one marker does not make a grade. this is difficult for a new collector to comprehend. subtle details need to be looked at as well as the overall coin.

I'll jump in with the F12 crowd. Nice looking circulation cameo example.

Quote: one marker does not make a grade. That is true, especially for the Barber series. They tend to wear down unevenly.
