The explanation of the two varieties listed above one 2d and the other 3d is as follows: 2d bowtie has only half the bowtie showing on the obverse of the coin where as both sides of the bowtie show on the 3d bowtie variety of obverse of the coin.

Could you crop your images so that we can see details of the coin? We don't need to see the 2X2. And take them out of the 2X2 for the pictures.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

I've never heard of the 'bowtie' variety. Sound like an ebay seller describing a made up situation. Please show us the variety without the 2x2, clear in focus photos of this supposed 'bowtie'.

pictures are cropped by snipping tool and no why take a common coin out of the case what a waist of time and risk to damage a red coin? I need gloves to do that and mine are all contaminated from opening uncirculated rolls they turned the fingertips black. If you can't see the bowtie difference I can use the coin camera thing later.I am busy on a quest to find in the 1982 rolls a 1982 grease through die variety I don't have one for my collection. If you have one please post it so I know what to look for because the only kinds of grease throughs I have been turned onto in coins I found by friends who spotted them are 1943 steel grease through types. I thought they were just obliterated coins but shilo is a smart Guy! No weather or not a grease through or jacked up coin as far as I see is genuine I could care less it is the thrill of the hunt. Happy Hunting! Oh any when I get new gloves for searching more unc wheat cents I will gladly repost 2d bowtie variety and 3d bowtie variety cents. The reason we call them that is because these varieties or different looks were discovered here in Oregon and thats what they call them! And another thing https://www.coinworld.com/news/us-c...ntimony.htmlThats Oregonian too! Hoorah Oregon!

You need to use the default Microsoft image viewing software to crop your images NOT the snipping tool. the images above are not useful at all to let us see what you do. I use that image software all the time to crop my images and they all turn out great! Also the 2x2 cover is causing glare - can you retake the images with the coin NOT inside the 2x2? (just wear gloves or only hold by the edges) I too have never heard of any 'bowtie' varieties can you post up a link or 2 of this study or as proof to your claim? Or is this just a study you did yourself? In any case, we need MUCH better images to convince me of this. AS to your claim to your 1943 'Tin' cent also on that NGC web site is a short statement: Quote: NGC is reluctant to specifically declare the piece "experimental" since no known documented evidence supports the claim. "No known documented evidence to support the claim"

There is no such thing as a bowtie variety or error.

Quote: There is no such thing as a bowtie variety or error. Thank you Thad for coming out and stating what we all have been dancing around. I just want this OP to post up images that we can see. But I doubt that will happen.

this is an attempt to enlarge the 1943d obverse one and wheat stock minted over the obverse on bust and in the field. Can anyone see the wheat stock and the one?
