This 1943 Steel cent has what appears to be rather distinct doubling of the 43. It does have what looks like mild corrosion. I can't find any mention of any variety that looks like this in any of the references I have looked in. My inclination is to assume its a fake or its due to some weird corrosion effect that has created a "shadow" of the 43. Any thoughts? *** Moved by Staff moved to a more appropriate forum. ***
Could be Die Deterioration, as John1 stated but I'm leaning towards a badly re-processed coin, which will give it the look of doubling in this area, due to movement of the extra plating.
