I think they are both fakes, the first one lacks hair detail - even in the recessed areas that would not wear out first. at first glance it looks like plastic to me. The second thing is the very VERY low price. Here is an authentic chain cent in a PCGS holder going for $160,000 (which I think is far too high) ebay item number:256301273101
The second one is questionable - for such a price and crappy images + the seller only has 5 feedback points - I would stay away if I were looking at it.
"Questionable" is an interesting word here. I wouldn't buy either one. The 40k seller doesn't deal exclusively in coins, probably wouldn't recognize this as counterfeit (which I have to think it is). The other seller has only 5 feedback and the pics aren't sharp enough to say for sure, but same problem -- probably wouldn't recognize as counterfeit and not worth the risk.
Both auctions are over, one got shut down early, but the other sold for $1,472, way lower than a 'real' one but still a chunk of change. It's just sad, now someone has that terrible fake in their collection and doesn't even know it.
