A possibly foolish question.

I already doubted a III cent coin for not having the exact weight the type should have: 2.14 g instead of 1.94. Was informed here that the first years of those these could have some deviations. Hard to be precise with certain alloys at the mint.

This should apply to other nineteenth century US coins? Where sources quote official weights to the tenths of the gram I should not take them as an exact specification when trying to assess a mint state coin? It depends on the type and year?

Not with 300KB limit - give me a few minutes and I'll pop it on my site.

Docc, here is your table - same dimensions, saved with lowest possible image quality settings. Barely squeaked in under 300 kb. Don't know how it will look until it's posted.

Chase down the enabling legislation, but also be aware that for minor coins the tolerance was generally left to the Secretary of the Treasury's discretion. It was generally specified for precious metal coins.
