Hello, I am currently going through my grandfather's coin collection and came across this dime, it appears to be missing a clad layer on one side. Are these common? Thanks

2 grams, but I am using a kitchen scale so I'm not sure how precise it is, I will be investing in a better one.

How about a picture of the edge?
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

Can you provide aa better image of the obverse? a close up and cropped better. But from that I see it just looks like environmental toning. (I can see a silver bit showing at the bottom of the bust and between Liberty and the rim.)

ok, I'll come back when we have an accurate weight. A nice scale and a scope are crucial tools in coin collecting.

Thank you for the advice!!! I just ordered a scope too, I will be going through many more coins and definitely can't rely on my phone camera. I'll post updated pics too when I am able.

to the CCF And yes a good scale will help. If it was missing one layer, it would weigh in at about 1.9 gs and it wouldn't be struck up as good as it is. I think it's just some kind of staining.

Here's a picture of the edge next to a regular dime while I wait for the scale. See a tiny difference, but not much.
