Recently acquired this plastic coated coin with gold highlights on the reverse. Field finish is grainy, reeded edges are not coated. Any thoughts on the origin of this coin and why the unique finish?

Yes that is my vote too--someone paid a premium for this and then has spent it after finding out that it is still only worth face value. I'd probably keep it as a fun find.

I will not mention company but they sold the complete set from 1999 to 2008 in a very nice mahogany case. Looked very impressive but as stated not worth it to a collector.

It's been plated. PMD. Worth face value.
