Anybody know if NGC encapsulates "things" without a score, genuine confirmation nor any indication that it's a SAMPLE, or the like? For example, there's this item on the bay, item no. 296464204403. Sorry, have to cut/paste this one.
I tried to run the number but without a score didn't get far. It isn't the only one on offer from this dealer who actually has a fairly positive feedback tally. For all the work they put into it, it's not fooling anybody, so why try to attribute it to a collection? And a piece of the original bag would have been nice.

Thoughts?

A quick search for "ngc 57th street collection" on ebay returned graded, authenticated, and non-graded/authenticated coins. Multiple sellers, multiple coin series.

Thanks Spence. My half brain is only half working today.

Edit:

There used to be a Stack's Galleries on W. 57th. Could that have been half of what's now Stack's-Bowers? The signage used is similar. Maybe that's where the seed for this little scam- if that's what this is - originated.

I've seen genuine coins in similar holders. Not saying this one is genuine, only that genuine coins have been holders like this one.

Here's NGCs verification: https://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/...1-013/Other/

It's completely legit. There are dozens of these on ebay.

Huh. I wonder why I got zip when I tried to run it. Seems to me PCGS has a box to tick for "holder only" if the coin has problems. No score is better than Damaged or another Details score?

Of course they slab coins without numerical grades.

In NGCs cert lookup use the "Grade" dropdown menu and select "Other". Since there no number or details listed then "Other" it is.

And yes, since no problems are noted then NGC "graded" it genuine and problem-free. This is a low grade example that appears to be G04 or better.
