I am thinking the mashed '2' in 1882 is an overstrike 3? The only other oddity I see is a gouged star directly across from the top of the '5' and a rim cut at about 3 o'clock that I believe is related to this gouged star.

Overstrike or not?

I am finding more than one 1882 with the mashed '2'. Methinks this is some type of common flaw for that year.

By the way, I found several just like it. I'm thinking it is a date strike anomaly for that year. After finding 6 of them just like it....

Paul St Louis,
I moved your thread to a more appropriate section.
What are you using to take photos with?

Photos are being taken by my shaky hands and a cell phone. Some days my hands are more steady than others. I can try again.

John, you are a genius. This should be made an automatic response to any post with poor pictures!

I like link 1 option and will order one right now. Question....what is available to hold a coin upright to take rim shots? I bet you have a solution.

Meanwhile, you gave me the idea I needed for the moment. Here are some new pics.

Thanks, but that was not my idea.
Taking edge shots, might be able to just balance the coin on a flat surface?
Looks like your coin is in a 2x2 holder? Best to remove coins from holder before taking pics whenever possible.
You also need to filter your light source.

@Paul St Louis - To my eyes this is not an overstrike, it appears to be a mashed 2.
