Hey coinnoisseurs! I found 2 coins today from 1862 but they look very different, one matches the weight but the other one is very off and even the shape is wierd looking. So my guesses are PMD or maybe struck or bronze planchet?

The first appears acid-treated.

I'm guessing the first saw a soak in CLR - a shame for sure.

Never tried soaking a coin in CLR - I'll have to try it.

with lots of rocks in with it too.

But yes, looks like an acid treated coin. (maybe CLR too - I might have to try that too and see what happens to a copper coin.)

Dearborn - I'd label CLR an acid...I present to you the concoction...

water
lactic acid
gluconic acid
lauramine oxide
propylene glycol
n-butyl ether
glycolic acid
sulfamic acid
disodium capryloamphodipropionate
ethylene glycol n-butyl ether
citric acid
