Hi found this 2023 D nickel in a roll today is this a error or damage the coin has a weird look to it. let me know ty   Sorry for the bad pics

Thank you for the weight. Should weigh 5.0 grams +/- .194 grams. Looks like VLDS,but not 100% sure. John1

I'm very new to this so I'm asking to learn. That looks a bit like my dryer cent. Does that happen to nickels too? Or just to clad coins?

I found 8 of these today in a mixed coin roll, they look exactly like this. Just about tossed the first one to the reject pile but then, another then another. Thanks to the OP for posting the example, definitely going to hang on to them and share a few with others.

Many 1980s and 1990s nickels look like this. Severe Die Deterioration. This is the first I've seen on a newer nickel
