Poll Question
This is a coin slabbed by PCGS. It's not my coin, but it struck me as an interesting coin to grade/discuss. I've posted a big pic for the most detail. What's your grade? I think you'll surprised at the PCGS grade

That will come in time. I first want to see how collectors would grade this coin.

I went with 62 also. The reverse could go 63 but not the obverse. There's so many hits on the obverse that I was tempted to say 60 but because of it's rarity, I imagaine it went 62 at least.

Ah yes - the dreaded "market grading". In all honesty, I wouldn't grade this coin above 61 if it were a "regular" '55. Because it's a DDO it may well have gone 64 at PCGS but likely went 63 due to it's status in the marketplace.

The coin is a solid MS-63. I suspect it looks a lot better in hand, there's probably a lot of luster which goes a long way in TPG land. Remember, they don't typically use a loop, just a quick eye grade, so if the coin was blazing, they likely ignored the hits in the 8 seconds each grader looked at it. Eye appeal goes a long, long way. I'd totally be in shock if they went 64 or higher, I suspect you posted this because they gave it a 65. LOL

I'll bet they don't call it no more than MS-60RD

Thad, Yes--perhaps the camera picked up all the scratches here, and not the overall look? Still, I was a bit surprised it graded this high. (I did not vote, but it didn't look over 63 imo)

Here's a link to the auction results. http://coins.ha.com/common/view_ite...8&Lot_No=278For anyone who doesn't have a membership there, the pics they provide, along with the auction archive, is quite an educational tool. Very much worth the price of admission: free.
