Pulled this from a roll tonight while "hunting". Had some very nice eye appeal. I just wondered what your thoughts were.

Please grade. Has some hazing and a spot around 6-7 o'clock.

In 1971 the dies were reworked and good detail is common, however bag and contact marks are very common too.
I don't see any circulation wear, only a few contact marks, typical strike and detail for a 71 D, a few tiny dark spots.
I would grade it MS63 maybe on a good day MS64 and it has a ding ( cut ) on what could have been 5 full steps.
This is a better than average UNC you might encounter in my opinion.
Looks like one you might get in one of those cello mint set cuts.
There's been a lot of good pickings from the mint cello singles.
I buy them a lot, you can get some steps on tougher dates if you check out mint sealed coins. Less bag marks too.
Thanks for showing you nickel. ( PS: I am not a pro )

Ah Wheezy! You are as close to a pro as they come in my book.

I was hoping you'd share your wise opinion.

So if the ding wasn't there this would be a full step coin in your opinion?

Thanks again.

There are those who ignore it, there are those who interpret uninterrupted steps as without cuts like that. There are others who have to have the step continuous from one end to the other without being weak at any point or missing.

The best definition for full steps is best described here by Bernie whom I met many years ago. He would determine the cut to disqualify it as a full stepper. Now on ebay some ignore nicks and cuts and even some graded slabs, there seems to be a little bit of overlooking this.

I think it is fair to say that if they are going to be extraordinary, they need to be without.

Read this neat interview.
It is worth your time. This fellow Bernie Orgovan is a pro. I'm just a copy cat.

I actually was having a terrible time with photos but consulted the forum.

I purchased a Canon Powershot Digital SD1100 IS 8.0 megapixel and use the macro feature.

So far it's been working great except I haven't figured out the white balance feature yet. All my pictures make my coins look "gold".
