PCGS - This Lincoln Cent isn't full of post-mint damage; it was struck through a late-stage die cap. A die cap happens when a coin gets stuck to the die after being struck. The die cap had been stuck on the die for so long that it was wearing thin, leaving a ghost image of the design.
That's a pretty cool example! It would appear to be a 1973 D coin. You can see one of the lighter versions of "Recurring die subsidence error" on the reverse.
