I'm not sure whether what I'm looking at here is a pre-cud? Please see photos. Thank you.

A reverse pic would certainly help. Is that feature raised, sunken (incuse), or flush?

Here is a photo of the Reverse. Not affected at all.
Edge isn't affected either.

The light-colored central round area is incuse.

The light brown "embankment" around the light-colored central round area is flush with the rest of the field.

The darker line at the far outside of the feature is incuse (especially at the top)

Definitely not a Pre-Cud. A Pre-Cud would be raised, not incuse. I'm thinking it's some kind of surface stain.

What does this coin weigh?

Just some questions and thoughts here, with no real answers.

I'm intrigued by the second "T" of TRUST, the tip of Lincoln's nose, and the rim, all of which are mostly intact. That would seem to rule out some object pounded into the coin, and the intact reverse also supports that. Nitric Acid, for example, reacts strongly with bronze and could do damage like that, but again the rim is intact. Use in a fuse box can heat a coin and do damage somewhat like that, but shouldn't leave the rim intact. It could, however, leave the reverse largely intact.

I wonder if this could be something like a slag inclusion that dropped out or something soft (like cloth or grease) that was struck through and dropped out. The coin clearly spent quite a bit of time in circulation, but the affected area is only partly discolored.
