These pictures of a 1955 Lincoln Penny appear to show extra material around Lincoln's Ear Lobe. Seems to fit the similiarity of a doubled ear but just confirming here with the community on the possibilty of mechanical errors being the culprit.

Thanks.

I don't think there's anything "ear".

Ah yes, but there is a cracked skull evident on the obverse. The classic '55 wheat may also have a die crack at the base of Abe's bust, as well as die chips on the reverse. A photo of the reverse would be fun.

Thank you on the responses for the post on the 1955 Penny. I went back and took better photos of the skull and die cracks, but especially for fun a reverse photo. The reverse shows a few die chips as mentioned. Does the initals being covered up on bottom mean anything or just PMD?. Guessing this is 1 for the personal file again.

Thanks to all.

I happened to see on the NGC variety list the 1997 DDO FS-101 for the doubled ear. Seemed like a possibilty when comparing photos with this 1955 Penny but the experience from this community tells me to keep coin pursuing.

Again, thanks to all.

That's asking alot for a 55 that had so many die problems during those long runs. Nice toning thought!

This sort of thing is so common on '55s as to be hardly worth mention.
