How about full coin images too? With out showing the entire coin (both sides, we will not be able to tell you what mint it came from?

The SM stands for 'Sunshine Mint'

@grey, first welcome to CCF. Second, looks to me like the silver round in this link might be a good match for yours, but I agree that overall pics of the front and reverse would help.

With that said, the numista listing doesn't mention which private mint actually made it. Perhaps it was Sunshine Mint? I'm not sure, but hopefully someone with more knowledge will weigh in with a better answer.

Welcome to CCF! I have two 1986 1 oz silver trade unit rounds with Liberty/eagle like a Peace dollar, SM mark. I inherited them from my step father and always assumed they were made by the Sunshine Mint, founded 1979, who became a huge company now called SMI Sunshine Mint International. They make products for governments including silver eagles blanks and their own line of bullion. I've thought of emailing SMI to see if they did make these old rounds but haven't. Several mints made trade unit rounds and bars.

Below is one of my examples and a business link that sells vintage silver government coins and vintage silver rounds. They list some older mints (brands) with a brief history, some now out of business. I've used this site to try and identify old silver rounds. I typed in "trade unit" in their search line but could not find the one of this topic.
