The attached photo (with reverse) shows something unusual appearing on the neck of this 1976 Bicentennial Quarter. Any ideas or is this just a big die chip looking like a funnel cloud?

Thanks as always.

Yes, we need to know if that feature is raised or sunken (incuse).

The 2 photos attached turning the quarter sideways seems it is sunken or incused. Hope this helps.

Thanks.

well still hard to tell if it in incuse or raised without knowing what direction the light is coming from, also, you need to zoom out just a tiny bit to include some of the other design elements on this coin.

Looks like a strike through of some sort.

Zoomed out for trying to take better photos of this possible strike through. Very interesting to say the least. Any potential for further evaluation needed?

Thanks

Looks like it was Struck Through Grease/Debris. I'm not seeing any displaced or raised areas of metal adjacent to the incuse area.

I have a pair of 1992 Silver Eagle coins with matching Strike Through areas in the field that look a little like this coin. Take a look if you'd like. http://goccf.com/t/358464
