Hello Everyone! Here is something cute, tho I think ANACS didn't go far enough... It's Copper, and went through the upsetting mill, so it must be an elliptical planchet, as opposed to being just a "regular clip"? It appears to be dated 1982, but I can't find others with the beginning of the arc of the 2 starting where it does, as seen here in relation to the 8. Thoughts?

It was a purchase from last night's HA sale of the Weird & Wacky, so I don't yet have it in hand. Here are a couple of blow-ups. I have no idea what that "dot" is next to the upper loop of the 8-I assumed it was the tip of a Large Date 2, but I can't find any 82 that are that close. It's not a ding, can't be a 3 or a 7...

Nice!
Help educate me - why do you think it's a 1982?

southsay: It is dated 198X and is Copper, so that narrows it down considerably date-wise. If that dot next to the upper-loop of the 8 is part of the date, then it can't be dated 1980 or 1981. I'm not sure that the date punch type was used in 1980 & 81, and it definitely was not used in 1983, because by then the Mint had adopted the 1982 Small Date legend type as standard

The dot is too close to the 8 to be part of the date. Just a part of the planchet. There's another one at about 2:30.

what does the reverse look like? maybe the design elements can help narrow the date down.

Dearborn: here is a blow-up Cujohn: I saw that too; it would have to be an edge ding, as would the dot by the 8. If they are not dings, then they must be part of the obv. die?

I just can't see how a 'clip' like this can occur..

Quote: I just can't see how a 'clip' like this can occur. You can't think of it as a regular clip. It came from the end or side of the roll of copper sheeting. Like a ragged clip.
