*** Edited by Staff to Add Year / Mintmark to Title. It's very important to have in the title. ***I found the nickel below last night. I am attempting to complete the 1938-1961 Jefferson nickel set and have currently searched 254,000 nickels. This is the most extreme example of one of these that I have found. I'm curious if any info that can be shed on this coin.

Well we generally advise that there is no numismatic premium until the tops of the letters start to fall off the edge. Your MAD definitely meets that threshold and so is a keeper in my book. What a great find in the wild!

Great example to find during coin roll hunting. You can really see how on the reverse, the strike is weak where the hammer die was off target. Definitely a neat find and a keeper in my book! =)

A very MAD example indeed. Nice roll find. Quote:I am attempting to complete the 1938-1961 Jefferson nickel set and have currently searched 254,000 nickels. It took me 320,800 nickels searched to achieve that goal. There are lots of old threads here at the CCF where I shared my roll search statistics. Best of wishes on your quest.

Thank you all very much for the information! I'm going to do a little bit more research on this nickel now that I know what it is.

Nice find, but not much a premium here I'm afraid.

Is this actually a 1971-D and not a 1973-D? Under the microscope it appears to be a 1971. I can't find any examples of a 1973 but have found some examples of 1971.
