This is my first posting ever, so please bear with me. I do have a question, though. How can some sellers on ebay sell their coins for so cheap? Like the 1936 penny with a dot, sold for $241.93 just recently. I thought these coins were worth much, much more?

I agree...I would have love to have seen that ebay listing for the '36er. I generally find eaby prices a little on the higher side, once you factor in your S+H fees. What I do is target the sellers that have shipping and handling incentives to help minimize costs, and then go bananas with their 'buy it now' items. It also helps to be astute and watch for auctions that are just minutes away from ending, with your pricing catelogue, and then snipe bid near the end. I read in a much earlier post that this works best during busy periods..like Super Bowl, Christmas Eve, etc.

I believe there are only 3 or 4 1936 dot cents known to exist, and there are thousands of copies in existence. Unless the coin is certified, there is no reason to believe it is genuine (and nobody with a genuine one would even consider selling it before certifying it), and people won't pay huge prices for it. With that said, there are some people who are greedy/naive who will buy one in the hopes it is genuine and they can sell it at the real price for a huge profit.

hello biokemist, tounge in cheek, ICG stands for (I Can't Grade) had several of their slabs.. and when I took them to coin show in vancouver, 2 dealers said the same thing and downgraded the coins 3, respective 3 points. One explained it to me... I pretended to be stupid.... I could see what he was talking about.. feverishly seeking for a 1936 dot canada cent...lololololo or better, a 1936 Canada dime with a DOT....much better. HHB

Look at the difference in detail on the leaves! Yet they both appear a bright red...? Sure appears fake to me, but I'm not familiar enough to really know. I know I'd never have purchased it though!

I can't understand how I.C.G. can exist judging by the way they grade coins. They are soo out of wack 99% of the time that when I see a an auction on E-bay for a coin slabbed by I.C.G., I don't even bother looking at the coin or it's denomination. I have no respect for ICG and all coins in an I.C.G. slab always fetch much less of a premium than any of the other TPG's. If you take a coin in an ICG slab and crack it out, it will always come back graded 1 or 2 full grades less when sent off to P.C.G.S. or I.C.C.S. especially if the coin is Canadian. Whoever stated ICG meant "I Can't Grade" hit the nail on the head, because those clowns at ICG sure can't and that's a fact that would be supported by almost all major dealers and advanced collectors. At least with US coins, ICG is not completely worthless but I obviously cannot speak for Canadian coinage which I only purchase raw. They are a legitimate TPG and not a self-serving basement slabber, whether you disagree or not. They fall in the second tier of graders with ANACS, with PCGS and NGC being first tier. They are a bit enthusiastic in their modern grading(i.e. lots of MS70s that are probably 69s) but most classic coins I have seen have been reasonably tight in grading.

Ya notice the seller in that ebay auction doesn't have any description what so ever? nor any personalized information about the coin? Thats a recipie for disaster in my books.
