Hello all,

I'm posting this here to see if anyone can give me some insight into whether this is an uncommon situation, or coins actually break like this.

To give some background, these two halves fell out of a slot machine many years ago, and I've kept them ever since, because to me it was a novelty having two halves of two separate coins that fit perfectly together. When you put them together, they make a two-headed quarter... which was the novelty for me and my friends.

But, after so many years, I've never come across any other broken quarters like these, and searching the internet for similar situations comes up empty or with random pictures of mutilated coins.

So, what I'd like to know is if this is not unheard of, or was there something like a problem with the minting of 1993 quarters?

See the attached photos, and thanks for any insight on this.

Thanks DOCC! That's kinda cool, and had no idea about Magician's coins!
Well, at least I got to learn something new, and confirm it's a novelty :-)

Nice job. Done on a lathe. The 2 pieces shouldn't separate though. The maker needed a bit of an interference fit. Neat to see the core of a US quarter. Be glad you ended up with both pieces. Neat find.
