I found this coin in a old coffee can my late father had been sticking his pocket change in. It looks to be doubled on the obverse but I'm not sure if it's Machine Doubling or die doubling. Also the black color on the coin how did that come about on coins? I have been keeping coins when I find them in this color, are they worth keeping?

Need better photos of both sides of your coin and some close-up views of what you're seeing.

Not seeing any doubling. The color is from Environmental Damage and doesn't add any value, as it's PMD.

At this point, I'm seeing post-strike damage with crud on low(er) surfaces--crud on
exposed/higher surfaces worn off. Would like to see the reverse.

to the CCF and The color is a detriment to the coin. There is only 1 58 DDO, and it's a big one. https://www.coppercoins.com/advsearch.php

I agree with the responses above.
I usually associate that black color with house fires. Not a benefit at all.

@Crow45 Can't see doubling due to picture quality. Perhaps dark toning due to environmental exposure/conditions.

I'm seeing doubling on the lettering and slight doubling in the date. The black makes it difficult to see, would a soak in acetone hurt the coin at all?

Not any doubling at all on this coin. Acetone won't hurt or help.
