I'm not entirely convinced the OP's raw coin is the same one that was in the PCGS slab.

You nailed it, apc258, they are not the same. I looked at Truve View as well and it looks like there are other points that don't match.

So who is the prankster?

Nice catch. The photo of the coin in the slab matches the TrueView photo, but it's clearly not the same coin as the dipped one.

It's the Sam coin. Why would I wast my time showing a different coin, that makes zero sense and a total waist of time. Check the cheek dent.
My question is what's the best way to allow natural toning to do what it did last time to cover these marks.
I am still so shocked a 3 second dip with ZERO rubbing did this. I was deviated and still am. Any suggestions other than an album and 10 years time to speed up a natural way to tone this? Thanks all, and yes I'll NEVER do this again.

The original toning on this coin hid so so much. I don't understand how toning can hide scratches like this. I'm so darn upset I can't tell you.

Can anyone help me please find a process to get natural toning back on this coin?
And please stop saying it's not the same coin guys., this is and I need help

Here is the TrueView pic of the obverse for the coin that is or was in the holder. The coin with the hairlines was never in that holder. There are too many markers that don't match between the coins.

You cannot magically return the stripped natural toning that was dipped off of any coin. It will take years to fix and the results may not be appealing.

What took many years to create took 3 seconds to destroy! Think about that.

You can place the coin in a 2x2 coin envelop and look at it every few years to see if any toning comes back. You can put it in an old Whitman cardboard coin folder and check it every few years. High sulphur content paper in some coin folders and some coin envelops may help accelerate and enhance the toning. However, may still end up with an ugly, splotchey toned coin when all is said and done.

Best bet is to sell it as is and cut your losses. You'll eventually sleep better when you aren't worrying about it.

additional photos show more differences. I blew up the OP's slab he posted this is what I found

the coin in hand photo (obv) does not match the slab the OP posted.

the OP slab photo DOES match the PCGS TV so the slab posted is in fact the PCGS coin

the 2 nicks near the lips in the hand photo does not match the slab the OP posted

the nick by the leaf in the in hand photo does not match the slab the OP posted.

Bottom line: the slab posted here is the actual coin. the in-hand coin is not the coin that came from out of this slab

Scomer: check you inventory and make sure you have the same coin thats in the holder you posted. I did this on a previous thread myself. check to make sure you only have one 90CC and that the in-hand coin posted is in fact a CC and not another mint. maybe you have a 90(P) or (S) in your collection and picked up the wrong one. I don't think it would be an (O) as that year the strikes were very soft

in-hand showing marks near mouth that are not on the shown slab coin

Below is a side by side of the slab photo on right and hand held coin on left. These are not the same coin. Look at the denticles below the 0 in the date.
