In looking at my pocket change, I found what looks like a 1998 WAM cent. Good News? Nope. Bad News. Looks like it was run through a shredding machine. Just curious. If I ever find one like it in good shape, is this close to what a 98 WAM would be spaced?

Man what a messed up cent with lots of road rash. I don't think you have a Wide AM but a photo of "states" and the FG initials will help make sure if it is or is not.

agreed, seeing how the AM is s badly damaged, an image of 'TAT' of states and the initials 'FG are our go to for confirming WAM and CAM cents.

I would like to know what about the TAT or the FG that helps identify a WAM. I know this coin is worthless in this condition, but I'm trying to use it as a reference point. Thanks again all.

Are you sure that it's from 1998? Looks like a 1990 to me.

@Errers
The only reason I say 1998 is the date that I showed in the photo. The 199 are clear to me, and I can see a clear circle inside the bottom loop of the 8. Do you see that as well?

This coin is a WAM reverse, but I'm not sure of the date.

If the A is centered between the two T then it is a WAM reverse. Like this: T A T.

This is what you have here.

If the A is closer to the final T then it is a CAM reverse. Like this: T AT.

Good day Gigi2. From what I can see from your pictures, the coin appears to be a 1990. The A M is normal for that year.
As mentioned by the group, the coin is a train wreck and not worth more than one cent. As far as your question about what a WAM looks like on the 1998, 1999, and 2000 Lincoln cents, the easiest way to explain it is that there's a gap between the A and M in America. Normal coins for those dates usually touch at the base of the AM. Have a good day and good hunting. ErrorsRCool.
