I just picked up this 1976 Bicentennial Quarter from the bank. It's in great condition but has these fine lines on the back side by the drummer boy. I'm wondering if this is a mint error. Any help would be appreciated.

To CCF! Those lines are die polishing lines.

Agreed. Die polishing lines/scratches. Very nice looking reverse on your coin, maybe post the obverse as well.

Some of the lines under the letters look like die scratches, but overall I agree with the diagnosis of die polishing. Maybe they were removing a die clash? Can we see a pic of the obverse as well?

Separately, that is a rather well struck coin. The reverse was known for a weakly struck rim on the drum. I can't remember if that was due to Die Deterioration, hub deterioration, or some combination of the two. A fully struck drum is a great example and likely worthy of a 2x2.

Thanks for the welcome. I had a small penny collection as a kid but that is long gone now. What does a 2x2 mean?

2X2 is a protective "coin flip" and this coin deserves one! They are inexpensive and a must for any coin collector.
I buy mine on Amazon. They are in all sizes, pennies, nickels, Quarters etc.

@Chris1974 Appear to be die polishing lines. These lines are raised above the surface of the coin, in this case on the reverse.

Nice find 2x2 worthy. Having a fuller strike on the drum is hard to find.

How can one tell if a coin has been cleaned? Is it cause it's still shiny and not tarnished
This coin is the way I found it inside a roll of quarters. Do it look like someone cleaned it and turned it into the bank?
