Long time listener, first time caller. Found this questionable penny in a roll. It's missing almost all the lettering. Back side is normal except the U in united and possibly the F in of. Is it just worn or is it a dirty/grease one? Or could it be special?

I checked the Red Book for all the 60s and did not see anything mentioned. I'm pretty new at all this coin stuff. I'm just wondering if it's worth investigating further or if I should throw it in the novelty pile. Thank you for your time!

to the CCF, Brittbreeze! This looks like a struck-through-grease error.

with Hondo. I have a couple 1989 D memorial cents that are very similar to this one.

Also to the CCF.

My first thoughts were Greaser, but those curved horizontal grooves through the R make me wonder at a Gumball Machine penny that has been smoothed by circulation.

to the CCF!

The really deep rims are a give-away that it's Struck Through Grease. Nice error coin!

I'd pop it in a 2x2 and keep it in my collection. When can you find a true error coin for only 1 cent?

I moved your thread to the proper section of the forum.
I think it is a 1969-D.
2x2 holder worthy.

Yep, the strong, well struck rims tell the story.

How did it stay in circulation all those years and not in someones collection? Nice find. Yes, it is a Greaser.
