That auction came across my feed. I was immediately intrigued by the doubling on the whole profile, the ribbons, and the feathers. I can't imagine that's a true doubled die. Is that how strong Machine Doubling presents on a vintage Buffalo nickel?

yes, I would say MD here, but it is not uncirculated - a high AU coin at best. (the horn is flattened out a bit)

Mike, those are great zoomed in pictures. Thanks for sharing, that helped quite a bit. I think my brain was on alert because of the way that this particular MD doesn't completely flatten the metal. On that Buffalo nickel, some of the MD has a 3D appeance more like real doubling. My eyes are just used to Jefferson nickels, where the MD thoroughly crushes the metal down to the fields.
