Hi there, here's a challenge - please help me identify this coin. Its diameter is 6cm. I've tried to read anything on it but it's impossible.
It is so old that small pieces of it started to come off!

@josh, first welcome to CCF. Second, I've moved your thread to the unidentified subforum until we figure out what you have here. At 6 mm in diameter, it is unlikely to be a coin though--maybe a medal. Interestingly, the second image seems to show the statue of Roland in Bremen, Germany:

@Spence wow that's interesting, it indeed says "ROLAND" and "BREMEN" in the second image. Nice catch!

Which is kinda disappointing, what has my medal gone through? I guess it is completely worthless :(

Ok yes good--the letters are a little fuzzy on these pics, but seem to match up quite well. There is a 1640-dated silver medal in the British Museum, which seems to be a good match for this piece. Here is the link: https://www.britishmuseum.org/colle...ect/C_M-3281

Perhaps you have a cast lead copy of this piece? What does your weigh? Thx.

Weighs 37g, which is odd because the original one (silver) claims to weigh 53.7g. But lead is heavier than silver!
Based on the dimensions, I'd say it is more likely to be iron/zinc?

Ok good to narrow it down a bit. Time for the magnet test to pick between those two metals. Let us know your findings!

Looks like zinc, which oxidizes to a dull gray surface.
