@bobby could/would you work your magic to automagically correct "nickle" to "nickel" in posts? I can think of zero scenarios in which the spelling "nickle" is valid.
If I'm the only spelling/grammar nazi that this bothers, just tell me to pound sand.

You're certainly not the only person that likes to see words spelled correctly.
I'm a writer, editor, proofreader, auditor and I've had to learn not to be upset when people write with incorrect spelling and grammar.
Correcting words is dangerous (suppose somebody's name was Nickle?) and slow.
The editor highlights words that seem wrong; if people choose to ignore it or don't understand the highlight, that's unfortunate.

I've thought about this before. The problem is a lot of people search "nickle" on search engines and those people find us. If I autocorrect it then we would lose all those hits. I've been on the fence about this for years.

I would leave it alone. Nickle is a legitimate surname. We also have 25 users with it spelled that way in their ID. I would hate for anyone to have their own name auto-corrected here.

This is a word when misspelled, people still understand.
For a while, I just thought it was the British spelling...LOL

Depending on which type of device you use for the forum, it may do it for you. For example, nickle on my iPad becomes nickel as I type unless I override it

My teacher said I would never need to learn to spell, we would have autocorrect for which I am grapefruit.

An author has just posted on FB that the publishers of the British edition of her novel changed "pants" to "trousers".
Unfortunately they also changed "occupants" to "occutrousers"!

A few years ago I was bored, did a forum search for "Nickle", and manually corrected a couple dozen old thread titles.
Of course, I first had to convince myself that "nickle" wasn't simply the American spelling of "nickel".
