Hi gang. I bought a new shilling that I am pretty excited about. The detail on the reverse is pretty impressive and really the main reason I bought the coin. The obverse (Queen Victoria side) is also nice, but seems to have some spotting. I know it is probably not milk spotting like you would see on bullion, but it looks like something similar. I'm wondering if anyone knows what this is and whether an acetone bath would be warranted?

Thanks!

Looks good just as it is. Let an old coin be an old coin. I would leave it alone.

Are there green spots on it? Could just be from the picture, but when I zoom in I seem to see some green there.

The green is just a strange reflection in the photo. I went back and looked - no green.

Acetone bath is not dipping, two completely different things.
"Dipping" is not considered cleaning...

Indeed. Dip is acidified thiourea.

As for this example, you may give it an acetone bath if you want, but I believe it looks okay as is.
