Ive read a couple price guides that say 1983 quarters have value but I dont see how since I find them all the time and the mintage is high.

Never noticed that before. The mintage numbers are normal for that time period

There is a much higher value on these if MS-65. I'm not sure of the reason why as the mintage figures don't warrant it so there must be some other reason. Perhaps someone with a little more info will be along soon to shed some more light on the subject.

Here you go, I found part of the reason through Google.

There were no official mint sets issued in 1982 and 1983. The coins were produced in very high quantities and no one thought to put aside some Brilliant Uncirculated Specimens. This has led to a shortage of high grade examples of the coins from these two years.

makes sense to me

There were no mint sets produced that year. All coins produced in that year were piled directly into circulation which meant high grade coins for that year are a scarcity. Its not just for a quarter. I think a MS 1982-83 nickel is like $12.00 or something like that.

Yep. Unless they are Mint State they really aren't worth much more than 25¢. The real value starts at MS-65 therefore if you are looking for those it would need to be slabbed or certified to know for sure. I'm not a quarter collector ( State Quarters only) so I wouldn't know a MS-65 quarter if it kicked me in the rear!

All 1982 and 1983 Quarter's in BU condition will bring a premium. Back then most collector's resisted the new "junk" clad coins and few were actually saving rolls of BU coins. With the elimination of the Mint sets, dealer's who were building sets were at a loss to obtain BU Quarter's. As dealer's looked for alternate sources to obtain these coins prices started to climb.

The last I looked the '83-P quarters wholesale for about $25 in BU. Most BU's are only about MS-61 or MS-62 because this date is very poorly made. Buyers reakky expect a few nicer coins (MS-63/4)in rolls so you won't be able to wholesale a lot of really bad rolls. True MS-65's are rare for this date. The graders will bump up lower quality coins because they are so tough.

You can get a premium (wholesale) of a few dollars to about $10 for nice AU specimens but there's little market activity in XF's.

Contrary to popular belief this was one of the clad quarter rolls that was most heavily saved. There were like more than 2000 rolls saved but this is higher than most other dates. As was mentioned, it's the lack of mint sets that causes demand for the rolls.
Time don't fly, it bounds and leaps.
