Hello all - just taking a moment to introduce myself.

3rd generation coin collector, and I'm rapidly getting a 4th generation into it as well with my almost 8 year old son - we are building some sets for his just turned 1 year old sister, starting with the American Women Quarter collection. I also gave her an American Eagle 1oz silver bullion coin for her first birthday this past Saturday, which she promptly tried to put in her mouth. (Fear not, it was properly protected in a plastic holder, and she will take possession of it properly when she is old enough!)

Right now I'm also focusing on building a "one of every coin style/denomination" set for coins starting with roughly the American Civil War, US coins to help narrow it down. Also targeting years in which family members were born.

My crown jewel of the collection so far is a set of 6 gold coins, $1 and then two quarter and two half eagles...worth a bit obviously but strong family sentimental value.

My biggest hope for hooking into this community will be the occasional help in identifying whether I have a rare coin or not (example - I may have the rare type 2 1981 Proof set, not sure), and also advice on how to handle the coins I'll be inheriting from my father when he passes. The fun there is that he has a MASSIVE collection, and he's REALLY into the Danbury Mint and PCS Stamps & Coins collecting. I'm hoping to get guidance on whether it is worth keeping the display boxes, chests, etc that come with these sets, especially since they take up SO much space.

Also may have questions asking about potential fakes, etc. I have a LOT of coins to go through as dad has passed to myself and my kids a bit of his collection now, before he passes on. (He's in ok health, not at death's door)

Took my son there now that he is old enough last month while he was on summer break, given the age requirements and how they don't do tours on the weekends. They weren't making new coins that day, but it was still neat to see all the history, and we did see some of the workers assembling the uncirculated coin sets that they sell for each year.

Pity we didn't get to see more than three bars of gold from the $100,000,000,000 of the stuff they have in the building.

Will probably make at least an annual trip each summer, good place to pick up some neat things.
