Checking the U.S. Mint's website to keep up with what's coming under my annual subscriptions, I see that the 2024 Flowing hair silver medal is set to be released October 15th. When this was announced sometime last year it drew my attention as to one I would be adding to the hoard. As time went on, from the first artistic designs giving an idea as to what it may look like to the actual now listed on the website, I understood that it would be a close rendition of the original. (Here's the link for quick reference: https://catalog.usmint.gov/230th-an...uct-schedule ). Meaning, the originals were hand cut dies with many nuances and varieties which is near impossible to duplicate using the current technology employed in the process. While I find the design as shown appealing it pales in comparison even if it were composed of it's original copper. Even so, they blew a great opportunity on that subject. From a collector's perspective, I applaud the mint for thinking outside the box so to speak resurrecting the early designs. For many new and novice collectors this may be the only way to obtain such designs even as they are mere commemorative types. As for the gold version, I had not added it to my subscription waiting to see where the spot is closer to the release date. My gut tells me just north of $3,000 based on current trends at which point I may have to give serious consideration against buying.

I still want to buy the silver medal, but I wish it were being released a week after the next coin show instead of before. My purchase(s) there might affect my willingness to buy this medal.

Original copper? Are you referring to the coin's copper pattern or the fact that the 2024 medal will have a composition of 99.99% fine silver vs. the original dollar's 90% silver and 10% copper?

I think the Mint has reproduced the original design reasonably faithfully - the CCAC requested minor changes to the obverse and reverse that nudged it away from being a closer reproduction. The 2024 medal will, no doubt, have "cleaner"surfaces and design details, but that would be expected on a pure silver, modern Mint product.

I like it!

One Rather Warm Topic,

I Too wanted to see an Original, or as Close to as Possible as to attract the " Collectors " of All Types.

That said, I was Hoping for a Silver Reproduction of The " Coin ". Not a Medal, Not Even a " Modern " version of Exactly the Same as the Original Dies, No Matter How, as Close as Possible Not as Commems Stated,

" the CCAC requested minor changes to the obverse and reverse that nudged it away from being a closer reproduction. " There it Is,........

Ps, This says it All, Thanks COMMEMS, " the CCAC requested minor changes "....

With All Due Respect, Why do They call the shots, Why did they Have that Recommendation ? Certainly Not what I would have liked to see...

Gold is always out of my reach.

If I have the money for gold, I have the money for the 1909-S-VDB and 1916-D.
