May I preface by saying I may be new to the CCF and I only recently renewed my interest in numismatics, but I hardly just fell off the turnip truck. In fact, 10 of my 31 years in journalism were spent as a consumer reporter where, among other things, I called out coin and paper money scams and come-ons. I know you vets of the CCF have your opinions of Littleton. If I had a Silver Eagle for every time I've seen the description "overpriced," I could retire. Oh. Wait. I already am. So their new catalog came last week and, with the above in mind, I decided to randomly open to a page and take a gander. Saw a 1/4 page ad for a '23 Peace $ in 60 listed at $127... but you get an absolutely fabulous holder they no doubt paid maybe 2 bucks for. I then checked the new issues of CoinWorld and Numismatic News for FMV. Thirty-three dollars. I tried to upload a photo of the ad, but I couldn't get the image under 300KB. Sorry. It's on page 79 for those who have the catalog. I know their marketing is aimed at folks who know little to nothing about coins; folks who see something "pretty" they can buy for a beloved family member or themselves. Clearly, they've been in biz for a very long time, so they must have their strategies. But am I missing something here? Please edumacate me!

Clearly you are "self edumacated" as you summed it up pretty well! IMHO

Littleton is a retail company that sells a lot of junk and overpriced coins to uneducated people they're trying to lure into the hobby. Beware.

I've seen their ads on fliers in the Wednesday junk mail bundle. I'll take a look at it next week.
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

The Sundman family (Littleton) has been ripping off uninformed people for more than 60 years. Interested in gold-plated worn Buffalo nickels, over-priced War Nickel sets, new counter-stamped cents, teaser ads for junk? Try Littleton.

I cannot recommend them today, but it would be dishonest if I did not admit enjoying their approval service in the early 1980s. It allowed me to fill my Whitman folder holes at a steady and affordable pace (I was a kid with an allowance). Cancelling their approval service was known to be impossible. I managed to end it when we moved several states away.

I was a member as a kid, but I had no allowance, I had to earn my pocket money working for my father and mowing lawns/shoveling snow etc in the neiborhood. John1
