Just wondering what you paid for them . I got a box of 2009-D from my bank last week and searched through six rolls, they are at best MS60, a lot of water spots, some dings and scratches, over all the reverse is better then the obverse but they were all the low quality that the mint has been putting out of late. I know that these are made for commerce and not for us collectors but what happened to putting a little pride in your product? These coins represent the United States of America to the entire world, come on quality control guys, step it up a little, show some pride, IMHO. As far as opening them, wait a while there are no big errors or varieties found yet and I doubt if you will find any high grades. John1

I paid $10 per roll free shipping and stamps with coins were included tho I am not a stamp buff. Maybe I should open them to see what shape they are in for this much money. I could have gotten them cheaper through another seller but shipping was too high.

hi, John,
How can I order 2009 pennies from bank? I asked to my bank. They said, 'we can order, but No guarantee they're 2009 new pennies. It should be just mixed used coins' !

ksyim, I didn't order these, I was told a couple of days before that a shipment was coming in and that it might have 09's in it. When I went back and asked for a box of pennies (cents) she had to put together one box of new cents from several boxes of mixed ones. I was told by several banks that they can't order a certain year or MM, they all come mixed, new and old. I do have an order that I placed about two months ago from a different bank, still waiting. The mere fact that you paid $10.00 for each .50 Cent roll and the fact that they're stamped by the post office, should imply that you " DON'T" open them !......then what would be the point of the "stamp" ? and the extra cost ? ... That is where the extra value is, and the reason for paying $11.50 extra per roll, and if you open them....that's then gone. If these were regular bank rolls not stamped by the Post Office, and you got them at face value or just a little fee.......then by all means open em' and check em'....... but that just isn't the case here I would think.

Thank you, I just heard rumors that just because they are rolled in the red/white roll doesn't mean that is what is in between the end pennies.

Quote: Thank you, I just heard rumors that just because they are rolled in the red/white roll doesn't mean that is what is in between the end pennies. Well that is true. The only way you can be SURE it is a solid roll is if it is in the wrapping paper used for the US Mint rolls. Any other paper does carry the chance that the roll may contain mixed dates. Unfortunately the only way to know for sure is to crack open the roll, and once you do that it is not returnable anyway. Anyone with access to a rolling machine can make up "Original Bank Rolls" of anything he wants and can put anything he wants into those rolls. Unopened rolls and the small bags from the mint are a fools game. Back in the early 2000's the DE quarter bag got up to $1,000 a bag for $25 worth of quarters. Empty bags and the tags were available on ebay and I do have the equipment to resew them. I could have bought the bags and tags for very little put anything in them, resewed them and sold them on ebay for $1,000 a pop. Who's going to reopen them? People weren't paying 1K per bag to search them. They were "investing" in them hoping to sell the unopened bag in the future for even more. If the price stays up the bags go happily trading person to person and the scam is never discovered. If the market crashes and eventually someone opens a bag and finds out he was scammed, I'd be long gone. (No I never did it, but I do have the equipment and I could have.) Never buy something you can't examine be it rolls, bags, AZ ocean front property etc.
