Thanks jbuck! Before I switch off the light and try to curl up in a comfortable position to get some sleep (not easy with my leg in plaster!) here's my last coin from 1922 - an Australian penny!

Quote: although the waves on the Japanese 10 Sen that we both posted are pretty cool too I've mentioned before that my Czechoslovak coin with the Charles Bridge was a strong contender for the most beautiful coin with my collection; I might as well reveal that [as far as I can recall] another contender was a Japanese 10 sen, with the waves. (No photo, I think...) My actual entry for 1922 isn't going to win any beauty contests, though! Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, 1 ruble, 1922. This is, by some margin, the rarest type in the entire Soviet circulating coinage type set (...ignoring the gold chervonets, whose circulation status is very uncertain), and 1922 is the scarcer of its two dates (1921 is the other option). I really lucked out finding that one in a dealer's tray at a sensible price of $30ish; in hand I was able to see enough of the edge lettering (almost hidden between the upturned rims) to tell that it, at least, doesn't look fake. I've showed it to about half a dozen dealers and all of them said it's probably real, though most of them also said they don't know how it managed to get that smushed up. If I ever return to my collection in Moscow, maybe I'll try to figure out which Soviet types I have and which I don't, and (hopefully) finally finish the set. For several years I wasn't sure if I should even try that set, because the RSFSR ruble was such a stopper.
