Stumbled upon this roll of (tails/tails) dimes advertised as unknown mint uncirculated 1976. Everybody was celebrating the bicentennial back then, I doubt the bank had special wrappers for 1976 dimes. I tend to think it's just an ordinary roll of dimes. Might just be the lighting, but they really don't even look uncirculated to me. What do y'all think?

Yes, I was alive and collecting in California through the Bicentennial.. And yes, some banks had special wrappers to commemorate the celebration.

You'd be paying 5$ for the roll of common dimes and 54.99$ for the wrapper

Seeing how the dimes didn't play any place for the bicentennial celebration, you would be buying ordinary dimes ready for circulation - just another 'gimmick' to make money on nothing of real value.

I seriously doubt the roll is original from 1976. They are not only not BU '76 dimes which might well be worth the asking price but the dimes were only rolled in the last couple years. They would be worth good money even as a sample of circulating dimes in 1976 since they are very scarce as such.

The end coins both appear to have substantial wear. Very very few dimes had much wear in 1976.

The wholesale price for '76 dimes is only $20 but an original roll even though every coin may be junk might have a Gem in it.

I should also point out that these wrappers may have been printed when the quarter came out in July of '75. So if they are Unc they could be 1975 date.

"Mint Unknown." Big deal. It doesn't matter--1976 dimes from either mint are not going to be worth anything above face value.

The only way this would be interesting to a collector is as a bit of Bicentennial hokum (or should I say, "Buy-centennial).

I began collecting around that time and vividly recall those sort of bank issued wrappers. As for what's inside, most likely the bank rolled the dimes left in the registers at the end of day or at another point in time. That said, who knows what lurks inside? Something to consider, silver dimes were only ten years retired so a few inside is not out of the question.
