There is a concentric 2/3 RDS of a circle of holes and then 3 more holes across the date.

My question is: What would cause these holes?

Copper plating was removed, and zinc rot has set in.

halfamind:

They are holes on the Lincoln side and the positioning of five is almost in a half circle pattern.

Each hole is like they were cut with a tiny drill bit.

Could be BB impacts, could be a drill, could be from being pressed into tar by a car tire, could be zinc rot setting in--bottom line is that it is just damage of some sort.

WB55,

Whatever the indented dots are from it is PMD and not a mint error.
