I picked this one up from our coin club auction. I thought it was a very presentable, lightly-circulated example of this better date. Traces of luster remain in the protected areas. How would you all grade it?

I notice the second 9 in the date is shaped a bit differently than the first. Is that perhaps caused by the date being positioned so close to the rim? I don't see any sign of damage in that location. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

The second nine looks normal to me (yes, different than the first one).

VF35. The reverse is holding it back from EF40 or even EF45.

This is my non-expert opinion.

I would grade this coin as VF-30, not enough detail on the diagonal bands to grade EF.

I agree with the comments above. The obverse looks EF but the reverse is VF30 at best.

It's a nice example of an early Merc that I would grade VF35.

I would grade it VF30 due to the amount of detail in the bands and also the hit on her face.
