This is one of my favorite coins. The rays on the rev. bring out this coin for me. Thanks for posting.

Looks cleaned, more obviously on the obverse, but still presentable. The rim nicks at 4:30 (obverse) and 12:00 (reverse) distract slightly. You gotta have one of these (or the 1853-O) in your type set since this is a one-year design.

You see quite a few low-grade examples of this date. I'd grade this coin VF-35 for detail.

I figured VF-35 myself. If it was cleaned...it was a while back. I bought this for $1.25 around 1977 and I never cleaned it. And it wasn't bright and shiny when I got it.

If you used a flash on the camera, that could give it a "bright and shiny" look

I'm very new at the picture taking thing. I bought a usb microscope to use for this. It has the built in led's. I figured out it's not the ideal system to use because even after taking some of my silver coins out of 2x2's, I still got alot of glare off silver coins.

Fantastic bargain price Ratman, well done! Yes, lighting can give a false impression of the surface quality. If the obverse looks more like the reverse photo in real life then maybe this coin doesn't have a cleaning "problem" after all.

A buck twenty five?

That was a score for sure. It's worth a heck a lot more than that now.

Nice coin - I love the arrows and rays types.
