I'm trying to help a friend out with this coin so sorry about the photos. Looks to be "JFR" counterstamped initials. Is this a recognizable counterstamp?

Looks more like an engraved "love token" than a counterstamp.

Got it, thanks, so these are unique I guess.

Yes, love token. One doesn't see these often, but an example will surface now and then. Very cool!

No real numismatic value, but a really nice collectible conversation piece!

No real numismatic value ...

I beg to differ with this statement. The host coin or token can often increase the value of love tokens and counterstamps. Early Bust coins like this tend to be very desirable to collectors and investors. To my experience, Bust halves like this one typically fetch prices at least much, yet often above what the host coin is worth. Repurposed coins are damaged, in effect, BUT, they are coveted by many collectors, numismatists and exonumists, alike.

N.B. - There are hundreds of love tokens for sale on ebay. Very few are hosted on early Bust coins; particularly so, on half dollars.
