The security notch on 2023 Silver Eagle is at 3 o'clock so that fits. Weight is 1 oz and those are the designer's initials under IGWT. It seems legit to me though I'm not great at spotting fakes. The mint mark for West Point would appear on the reverse of the coin above the tail - so not minted at West Point.

I hope your "friend" didn't think Adolph Weinman's initials was a "W" mintmark. EDIT: There were West Point minted ASE's but were not designated with the W mint mark

If I owned that coin, it wouldn't be given a second look before hitting my stack. It looks fine.

It is real, but a bullion ASE, not a West Point minted one. (The mint Mark will be on the reverse, the 'W' on the obverse is actually and 'AW' for the designers initials.)

Quote:It is real, but a bullion ASE, not a West Point minted one. Being bullion, you can't say where it was minted, having no mint mark. Unless it's certified or graded as to it's origin by a third party grader MORE than likely it West Point, but that can't be determined now. I'm not sure if the Mint was using any additional facilities in 2023, I'm guessing it was all produced by West Point.

If I'm correct ALL bullion Silver Eagles were minted at West Point but no mintmarks were used on them. The W mintmark was used on the "burnished" and "proof" coins. "2023 W Bullion ( no mint mark) 24,750,000 mtg."

Almost always at West Point. See below link. I wasn't interested that some were struck a Philadelphia but other collectors were. Philadelphia struck more in 2021. A third party grader was hyping them as "emergency issue." I don't know if they'll be worth more premium in the future. https://www.coinworld.com/news/prec...ng-certified

Yes Marve, you are very correct, that is what I meant, just was not very clear about it (it was at 3 am my time when I posted that)
