(This is not my coin) I am very confused on how this would be PMD or coin roll machine.
There are no indications of anything coming into contact with it and the bottom of the L is completely missing. It seems to be part of the vertical part of the L is missing also with no abrasions dents or dings. How does something hit it hard enough to reshape it without leaving any marks?

Metal movement = damage. There's absolutely no way this can happen during the minting process. It took a well placed hit, causing the L to get pushed to the side. It's PMD and not a mint error. Just a spender.

Edit: Other CCF members might be able to explain it to you better than I did.

May even have been a vending machine coin where the machine mech hit the L and moved it.
OP coin.......

Metal was displaced by some mechanism after minting.

I edited your title.
The L is PMD. The obverse is a minor MAD/rim fin.

Agree--post strike damage. Copper is a relatively soft metal which can be moved/reshaped when hit.

How does something hit it hard enough to reshape it without leaving any marks?

Its had over 40 years of circulation to wear off any marks.

@Coinfrog @Dearborn @John1
How does that make the bottom of the L disappear?
