Looks like a misplaced date. Similar to a Newcomb-3, but I'm not sure that the correct variety.

Definitely a misplaced date, and a pretty nice one at that. It's Newcomb-4. One of the four 1854 MPDs that I'm aware of.

I agree this coin is cleaned, the color is not original.

It may actually be part of a 4 like Newcomb-3, you can see the serif on the crossbar further up the hair curl.
