Pictures are a little too dark to see but I think your coin was in the ground for a while.

to the CCF, Dough101! Here is a nickel that I found in the dirt for comparison. US 5 Cents 1988-D dirt nickel US 5 Cents 1988-D dirt nickel comparison
Inordinately fascinated by bits of metal with strange markings and figures

To CCF! Your coin is suffering from environmental damage. Just a spender.
Errers and Varietys.

Work on your pic quality for future posts.. Strong copper composition? Nickels are indeed 75% copper & 25% nickel but, that wouldn't make a difference here. Your coin has extreme environmental exposure/ damage, as noted above.

Technically you are correct, since a nickel composition consists of 75% copper.
But I agree with the others that this is a badly environmentally damaged coin.

It'll be worth 5 cents whether you clean it or not, but maybe it'll be easier to spend.

Quote: Should I clean this coin? It would be a good coin to practice/experiment with, as it has no apparent value above 5 cents.
