I just bought an NGC slabbed nickel graded at MS66 Full Steps. Only one at NGC Ion 66fs one in 67 fs and one in 65 fs. PCGS has only population of three in full steps. Two in 66fs. I'm intending to send the coin to one of the auction houses for resale. Should I submit the coin to PCGS for crossover because PCGS definitely gets higher price in auctions for same grades versus NGC? Also if PCGS does cross it over that would increase the pop of PCGS '65 MS66 FS to 3. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance

I know that you can specify a minimum crossover grade or PCGS will just charge you the grading fee and leave the NGC slab untouched. Can you specific FS as part of the minimum grade? Because that's obviously where the money is for this coin. I assume the potential gain of a NGC slab change to PCGS is worth the risk of losing the total cost of PCGS grading fee, shipping, submission, mail insurance?

NGC specifies 5FS or 6FS, while PCGS just says FS.

Oh yeah it's definitely worth the cost to try for me. As far as I can tell there has never been a Heritage or other auction for the 65 full steps in any grade. I know PCGS also charges 1% of the value if they do cross it over. Currently they show $40k for '65 MS 66 FS. I'm not sure if the pop pegs pop bumping to 3 should it crossover at current ms66 fs would affect their current value, which is too high in my opinion at $40k.

How do you even mail this thing around for submissions? I assume the USPS is not going to insure a tiny package for $25000+.

I don't know.......pretty "iffy" on the FS designation. Wouldn't surprise me at all if PCGS doesn't give it a FS tag.

In my opinion, there is no way this coin can be considered a Full Step coin. In fact, the 66 is pretty darn generous, considering how the coin looks. I see nothing but disappointments, but with market grading being what it is, who know?

First to CCF I don't want to bash your coin, but I agree with Keith67 How's the sellers return policy?

Given the rarity of the grade and FS designation, it is unlikely that the coin will sell higher or lower in PCGS or NGC. GREYSHEET is $16,000; CPG $19,200.00. But even these prices are not necessarily indicative of actual sale price given the coin's rarity.
I would leave as an NGC graded MS66 FS.

Yeah, I agree on just looking at the pictures that the full step designation looks iffy. But I'll know much better when I actually get the coin in hand. I just can't imagine NGC giving 5 step designation on this rare of a full step year unless it actually was full steps. I believe 2, maybe 3 graders have to agree on the designation. The pictures of this coin on NGC website coin look up look better to me. I'll take some pictures and post them after it arrives.
